New Client Website Launch: Massachusetts Housing & Shelter Alliance

We are celebrating the launch of a new client website! The Massachusetts Housing & Shelter Alliance (MHSA) selected our agency to develop a new and improved website that would be more user friendly and better communicate their message.

Redesigning a website is no small feat. Not only were we migrating MHSA from another content management system to WordPress, but we also needed to reorganize and rework the existing content. Comprise utilized our content development, responsive web design and search optimization services to bring this new site to life.

The main pain point of the old website was the user interface design. Rather than having all of the information for a topic on a single page, information was located across numerous pages and links, which made it difficult to navigate.

The old site’s other pain point that we addressed was the overall look and feel. In the redesign, we focused on incorporating imagery and modern elements like animation.

MHSA’s goals for their website included:

  • Communicating their work and impact on homelessness in Massachusetts
  • Providing resources for those in need
  • Collecting donations

THE PROCESS

Site Map

First, we looked at the navigation (the skeleton of the website) and collaboratively worked with our client to determine the most important information, how to organize it and what content needed condensing.

Content Overhaul

Our copywriting specialists met with a variety of stakeholders to gain different perspectives and background information. While the details collected did not deviate too far from their previous “why” statement, it did impact the direction and enhanced MHSA’s message overall.

Website Mockups

When approaching this redesign, we presented the client with a broad range of layout and typeface options that incorporated the color scheme of their existing brand. In terms of organizing the content and data, our goal was to incorporate as much imagery as possible. After a few rounds of refinement, our development team got to work.

Web Development

We began by developing the main navigation and the homepage. In efforts to enhance the overall user experience, we utilized a handful of animated elements:

  • The homepage slider
  • Headlines
  • Statistics
  • Financials graphs

Once all of the pages were built, we integrated their email marketing platform, implemented SEO and started responsive testing.

The Result

The new site clearly conveys MHSA’s role in delivering solutions to end homelessness, conveniently supplies service provider information for those looking for help and features a prominent donation call to action throughout the site.

More to come: One thing we always tell our web clients is that websites are not tattoos — they can (and should) be changed and updated over time. We look forward to implementing even more dynamic features to this website during phase II in 2021.
